Shalom,
Since the 1960s our family’s story has been intertwined with that of Ramah. Our father, Bill was a camper and met our mom, Robin Sue on staff. The amazing experiences they enjoyed over the years was something they knew they wanted to give all four of us.
Our family spent summers spanning from 1962-2014 growing up as campers, serving as role models on tzevet [staff], meeting lifelong friends and life partners, the stories we tell and the way we live our lives are all stitched with the core values we learned at camp.
During the years we spent at camp, our parents, Bill and Robin Sue, were beloved and known far and wide with their welcoming picnic blanket and enough food (and homemade chocolate chip cookies), it seemed, for the entire camp each Visiting Day or Shabbat visit.
Michael’s lifelong best friends have stood the test of time, as his bunkmates from the ‘80s and ‘90s are still among his closest friends to this day.
Michael’s kids, Max (Machon 2024) and Hannah (Tzeerim 2024) have begun developing similar friendships in their summers at Ramah Day Camp, and presently at Poconos.
Zach and Josh loved growing up at camp, learning and evolving alongside their bunkmates. They were both inspired to join Jewish Fraternities at Indiana University based on the experiences they had at camp, and Josh pursued a career in social work after his meaningful experience as a Tikvah counselor.
Ben not only met his besheret [lifelong partner] Arielle Davis (Gesher ‘06) at camp, but they felt so connected and indebted to camp for their love story that they were the first and only wedding to date to take place overlooking the agam [lake]. They share potluck dinners with their camp friends each month (many of whom are also Ramah couples) and look forward to sending their kids, Jack and Stevie, to camp in a few short years.
While this is only part of our family’s Ramah story, we know each and every one of you has your own.
As we look towards continuing the legacy of camp, we hope you will join us in reflecting on all the ways your stories are inextricably linked to 75 years of Ramah. We hope this inspires you to join us in strengthening this special community for generations to come and supporting this year’s Chai Campaign. Together we can ensure Camp Ramah in the Poconos and Ramah Day Camp continue to create lifelong Jewish connections for generations to come!
B’ahava,
The Landburg Brothers – Michael (Gesher ’94), Zach (Gesher ’97), Josh (Gesher ’00), and Ben (Gesher ’04)
