2020 Chai Campaign

Our annual Chai Campaign is our largest and most impactful fundraising campaign of the year. Chai Campaign gifts benefit all of our campers in summer 2021 at Camp Ramah in the Poconos and Ramah Day Camp by aiding scholarship, incentives, programming, and other important operations.

The summer we thought we had lost everything, and it turns out we gained so much as well.

We thought we missed out on a summer of gathering together in the Beit K’nesset on Kabbalat Shabbat, or celebrating Yom Israel at the day camp, or even the Gesher play… but the truth is, we didn’t miss out on any of it. We completely recreated it!

  • Hundreds of participants joined us for Kabbalat Shabbat and Singing each week!

  • Traveled to Israel together

  • We watched and cried during the first-ever virtual Gesher Play

Camp Ramah has been inspiring future Jewish leaders for 70 years.

With your help, we can continue that legacy for 70 more.

Ramah needs funds to survive this unprecedented financial crisis.

Due to a $2.6 million loss this past year and facing uncertainties about how we will get back to safe operations next summer, we need your help more than ever to ensure that Camp Ramah will not just survive these times, but thrive.

Meet the 2020 Chai Campaign Chairs, ANDREW & VIVIAN BARNETT
L’Chaim To The Best Summers Of Our Lives!

“I was a reluctant Ramah camper in 1978. I left Ramah thinking that I needed to find a different camp… until February of 1979 when I miraculously decided to give Ramah one more chance.1979 was a great summer, as was 1980. I had roles in the plays, made great friends, and got more comfortable with the Hebrew and Judaism.

In 1983 I came back for what ultimately became the best summers of my life on kitchen staff. We participated in all that camp had to offer, including a particularly memorable mitbach staff rikkudiah performance!

Vivian and I met in 1979 when we were in the same edah. Re-acquainted through a common friend, we started dating a few years later and soon we were engaged. We married on November 6, 1989, a mere ten years after I gave Ramah one more summer.”

L’Chaim To Schlepping Chairs for Kabbalat Shabbat on Boy’s Campus! (Back Before the Outdoor Beit Knesset!)

“I first learned about Ramah from an info session at Hebrew school when I was 10, and I immediately begged my Dad to let me go.As a Jewish girl going to a school with few Jews, Ramah was one of the only places where I felt comfortable being myself. The impact of being surrounded by the Ramah community, kids just like me, was huge for me! I had many “firsts” at Ramah and I recall my years as a camper as some of the happiest of my childhood.

Ramah is where I met my husband…and now where my daughter met her fiance!”

L’Chaim to Shared Values We Learned From Camp!

“We have built a family life based on the principals and values we learned so many years ago at Ramah.” – Andrew

We are extremely honored to serve as the Chairs for this important campaign, especially during these unprecedented times. Ramah needs us now more than ever, and we’re grateful to be a part of this incredible community! Join us in making a meaningful gift to the 2020 L’CHAIM Campaign!

So far, 2020 has brought a new appreciation for things we once took for granted. We’ve reconnected with our global community, remembered the joy of our own years at camp, and the pride in establishing a legacy. We’ve embraced the Ramah ruach like never before.

Thank you for the generous partnership of the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia and the Harold Grinspoon Foundation.
